Homeless Children Liaison Contact Information
The
Superintendent of Schools, under Federal Law, is Belchertown School
District's contact person for the reporting of homeless children within the Town
of
Belchertown. The Superintendent's responsibility, in this capacity, includes
both
identifying and helping
homeless children within the Town of Belchertown. Helping
homeless children will include receiving assistance from social service agencies
(e.g.,
adequate clothing, housing, nutrition,
supervision, medical care) and seeing that they
enroll in and attend school on a
regular basis.
Homeless students are defined as not having an adequate regular residence, including:
.
1. Sharing
the housing of other persons due to loss of housing or
economic hardship;
2.
Living in
motels, trailer parks or camping grounds due to the
lack of alternative adequate accommodations;
3. Living in emergency or transitional shelters;
4. Being abandoned in hospitals;
5. Awaiting foster care placement;
6.
Living in
public or private places not designed for or ordinarily
used as regular sleeping accommodations for human beings;
7.
Living in
cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, sub-
standard housing, transportation stations or similar settings; and
8.
Migratory
children living in conditions described in previous
examples.
