School Cancellations, Delays and Early Release Procedures

Canceling school or even delaying school for two hours for snowstorms or icy road conditions are sometimes marginal decisions.  However, such decisions will be made by 5:30 AM, when such weather conditions exist. In addition, sometimes students may need to be released early as the result of inclement weather.   The ultimate decision will be made based on student safety.

On days when there is a delayed opening, no morning Early Childhood classes will be held.  However, on days when there is a delayed opening, there will be afternoon Early Childhood classes unless otherwise indicated.

If you work, please have a place where your child can be supervised if school is cancelled or delayed.  Also similar arrangements need to be made if students are released early because of weather conditions. Please be sure to notify your child’s school in writing of what the arrangements will be on early release days.

Please do not call the schools for information.  You will be sent a telephone and/or email message via SchoolMessenger, which is the school district’s telephone messaging service.  Please make sure your child’s school office has the correct telephone number(s) in the school database and e-mail addresses. If you do not wish to be contacted via School Messenger regarding weather related messages, please contact You can also listen to the radio and television stations, or log on to the website address listed on the reverse side of this notice for information regarding school cancellations, delays or early dismissals.

If we have used more than five (5) snow days by March, a decision will be made whether or not to use spring vacation as make-up days.

We are committed to student achievement and individual success for each learner. The students are our primary concern and we take all aspects of their growth and development very seriously.  We aspire to provide a quality education for all students while addressing individual needs, strengths, challenges, and unique learning styles so that they may reach their fullest potential.  Our early childhood learning environment fosters an appreciation of individuality, diversity, and citizenship.  It is our hope that our students will develop a desire to become life-long learners, contributing members of society, and that they will pursue academic excellence as they begin their educational journey with us at Cold Spring School.
