{"id":37,"date":"2023-02-21T13:59:15","date_gmt":"2023-02-21T13:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.belchertownps.org\/jabish-brook-middle-school\/health-screenings\/"},"modified":"2023-02-21T13:59:15","modified_gmt":"2023-02-21T13:59:15","slug":"health-screenings","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.belchertownps.org\/jabish-brook-middle-school\/health-screenings\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Screenings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"alt\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/images\/documents\/district\/health\/images\/spine.jpg\" style=\"float:left; height:255px; margin:10px; width:175px\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Screenings are a useful tool for finding potential health problems which might interfere with learning.\u00a0 As with any testing, there can be some false negatives and\/or positives.\u00a0 Occasionally a child will screen poorly at school and do fine in the doctor\u2019s office.\u00a0 Sometimes children will pass a screening at school only to show up with a problem later.\u00a0 School screenings don\u2019t test for every potential problem, so if you still feel that there may be a problem, don\u2019t hesitate to consult with your child\u2019s doctor.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In accordance with M.G.L. c71, s57, all students in Grade 7 will have screenings for <strong>vision<\/strong>, <strong>hearing<\/strong>, <strong>heights and weights<\/strong> performed. <em><strong>All parents will receive BMI results; only failed vision and\/or hearing results will be mailed home.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"alt\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/images\/documents\/district\/health\/images\/eye_chart.jpg\" style=\"height:208px; width:159px\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"alt\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/old\/images\/documents\/district\/health\/images\/hearing_0.png\" style=\"height:248px; width:283px\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>All students in grades 5 through 9 have postural screening.\u00a0 If a parent\/student refuses to have this done at school, <strong>written documentation<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>must be provided by your physician and submitted to the School Nurse. The state does not waive this mandate.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The Physical Education staff conducts the screenings.
